About Flesch Reading Ease

The Flesch Reading Ease formula was developed by Rudolf Flesch in 1948. It calculates readability based on two main factors:

206.835
Base Constant
1.015 × ASL
Sentence Length Factor
84.6 × ASW
Word Length Factor

Formula: 206.835 - (1.015 × average sentence length) - (84.6 × average syllables per word)

Where ASL = average sentence length (words per sentence) and ASW = average syllables per word
